About Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant is one of Australia’s most historic and respected wineries, located in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Founded in 1921 by legendary Australian winemaker Maurice O’Shea, the winery has played an important role in shaping the reputation of Hunter Valley wine.

Maurice O’Shea was a pioneer of Australian winemaking, recognised for his understanding of vineyard sites and his belief that great wines should express their place of origin. His influence continues to be reflected in the winemaking philosophy and heritage of Mount Pleasant.

The Hunter Valley’s warm climate, ancient soils and unique maritime influences provide ideal conditions for producing distinctive wines. Mount Pleasant is particularly renowned for its Semillon and Shiraz, two varieties that have become synonymous with the region’s winemaking identity.

The winery’s historic vineyards include some of the Hunter Valley’s most celebrated sites, including Old Hill, Lovedale and Rosehill. These vineyards produce wines known for their elegance, longevity, complexity and ability to develop remarkable character with bottle age.

Mount Pleasant continues to honour its heritage while embracing modern winemaking techniques, carefully preserving the distinctive character of its historic vineyards and the unique terroir of the Hunter Valley.
