The 1998 Penfolds Bin 95 Grange Shiraz is one of the most celebrated and collectible releases from Australia’s most iconic wine label. Produced by Penfolds, Grange is internationally recognised as one of the world’s great wines, renowned for its extraordinary longevity, concentration, and complexity. The 1998 vintage is widely regarded as one of the standout Grange releases of the modern era and remains highly sought after by collectors, investors, and fine wine enthusiasts worldwide.

Crafted predominantly from Shiraz with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit was sourced from premium South Australian vineyards across renowned regions including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, and Magill Estate. The wine was matured for 18 months in new American oak hogsheads, preserving the distinctive Grange style that has defined the label since its creation by legendary winemaker Max Schubert.

The 1998 vintage benefited from outstanding growing conditions, resulting in a wine of exceptional concentration and balance. The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum, liquorice, dark chocolate, mocha, vanilla oak, cedar, and exotic spices. As the wine develops in the glass, further notes of tobacco leaf, roasted coffee, leather, truffle, and savoury complexity emerge.

On the palate, the wine is powerful yet beautifully integrated. Rich flavours of ripe blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate, espresso, spice, mature oak, and savoury nuances unfold across a full-bodied and structured framework. Fine tannins and vibrant acidity provide remarkable balance and ensure continued ageing potential.

The finish is exceptionally long, concentrated, and elegant, with lingering notes of black fruit, cocoa, cedar, tobacco, spice, and mature oak. Properly cellared examples continue to evolve magnificently and remain among the most desirable mature Grange vintages available on the market.
