The 2015 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is one of Australia’s most iconic Barossa Shiraz releases, produced by the highly traditional and cult-followed Rockford Wines. Known for its old-school winemaking approach and commitment to heritage Barossa vineyards, Rockford’s Basket Press is one of the country’s most consistently respected expressions of classic Shiraz.

The 2015 vintage in the Barossa Valley delivered excellent balance, with warm growing conditions producing ripe, concentrated fruit while still retaining structure and freshness. The result is a powerful yet finely composed Shiraz with exceptional depth and long-term cellaring potential.

Fruit is sourced from mature and old-vine Barossa vineyards, many dry-grown and hand-tended. Traditional basket pressing and fermentation in open fermenters are followed by maturation in seasoned American and French oak hogsheads, preserving both richness and regional authenticity.

The bouquet is deeply expressive and complex, showing blackberry, dark plum, and black cherry, layered with classic Barossa notes of licorice, dark chocolate, vanilla, and spice. Savoury undertones of earth, leather, dried herbs, and roasted meat emerge with air, adding further depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous, and structured, with rich layers of dark fruits, plum compote, mocha, and spice. Despite its power, the wine retains a sense of balance and restraint, supported by fine tannins and a solid acid backbone.

The finish is long, warm, and persistent, with lingering notes of black fruit, chocolate, spice, and earthy savoury complexity. While already beautifully drinking, the 2015 Basket Press Shiraz will continue to evolve over 15–25+ years, developing greater tertiary depth and silkier texture with age.
