The 2018 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Tenuta “Greppo” is a prestigious release from one of Tuscany’s most iconic estates. Produced at the historic Tenuta Greppo in Montalcino, this Riserva embodies the classic Biondi-Santi style: elegance, freshness, structure and extraordinary ageing potential.
Crafted from Sangiovese Grosso, the wine reflects the estate’s longstanding commitment to traditional Brunello production. The fruit comes from Tenuta Greppo’s historic vineyards, where careful vineyard management and naturally low yields allow the grapes to develop exceptional concentration while retaining the freshness and aromatic precision that define the estate.
The 2018 growing season produced a wine of impressive balance and finesse. A relatively cool and rainy spring was followed by a warm summer, while favourable conditions toward the end of the season allowed the grapes to reach full phenolic maturity while maintaining the acidity essential for long-term ageing.
Following the traditional Biondi-Santi approach, the Riserva is matured in large Slavonian oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity without overwhelming the character of the Sangiovese. Extended ageing further integrates the tannins and brings greater aromatic depth and refinement.
In the glass, the wine shows the graceful profile expected from a young Biondi-Santi Riserva, with expressive aromas of red cherries, wild berries, rose, violet, Mediterranean herbs, liquorice and subtle earthy and balsamic nuances.
