The 2019 Ata Rangi McCrone Block Pinot Noir is an exceptional single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the iconic Ata Rangi estate in Martinborough, New Zealand. Produced only from the distinguished McCrone Vineyard, this wine showcases a unique expression of Martinborough Terrace terroir, where a rare seam of clay overlays ancient alluvial gravels, producing Pinot Noir of remarkable depth, structure, and longevity.

The outstanding 2019 vintage delivered low yields, concentrated fruit, and superb natural balance. Extra time in bottle prior to release has allowed the wine to develop beautifully while maintaining its youthful energy and precision.

Hand-harvested fruit undergoes meticulous sorting before fermentation with indigenous yeasts, including a proportion of whole bunches to enhance aromatic complexity and structure. The wine is matured in French oak barriques, carefully integrated to preserve the vineyard’s distinctive personality and purity.

The bouquet is intensely perfumed, offering aromas of rose petal, sweet raspberry, red cherry, and fragrant spice, layered with subtle notes of iron ore, dried herbs, forest floor, and mineral complexity. As the wine opens, additional nuances of cola, cedar, sage, and fine earthy spice emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, and beautifully concentrated, delivering flavours of red cherry, raspberry, plum, and wild berries supported by remarkable freshness and finely detailed tannins. A distinctive mineral character and savoury complexity provide both depth and precision, while vibrant acidity gives exceptional energy and balance.

The finish is long, savoury, and finely textured, lingering with notes of red fruits, floral perfume, spice, crushed stone, and earthy minerality. Although already showing superb integration, the 2019 McCrone Block Pinot Noir remains youthful and is expected to evolve beautifully over the next 15–20 years, developing even greater complexity and elegance.
