The 2019 Torbreck RunRig Shiraz is the flagship wine of Torbreck Vintners and one of Australia’s most iconic and highly awarded Shiraz-based blends. Crafted from ancient, dry-grown Barossa vineyards and enhanced with a small proportion of Viognier, RunRig represents the winery’s ultimate expression of power, complexity, and elegance.

The 2019 vintage is widely regarded as outstanding in the Barossa Valley, producing wines of exceptional concentration, structure, and aromatic intensity. The season’s warm, dry conditions yielded low crops of small, deeply coloured berries, resulting in remarkable flavour density and tannin quality.

RunRig is sourced from multiple historic vineyard sites across the Barossa Valley, with fruit from old vines providing depth, while Viognier adds aromatic lift and finesse. The wine is matured for around 30 months in French oak barriques, with a significant proportion of new oak, building structure, complexity, and ageing potential.

The bouquet is intensely layered and powerful, showing blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, and plum, supported by notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, espresso, vanilla bean, and violet florals. With air, more savoury complexity emerges, including cedar, graphite, dried herbs, spice, and subtle smoky earth tones.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, opulent, and tightly structured, combining immense concentration with polished, finely grained tannins. Flavours of dark berries, cassis, plum compote, mocha, and cocoa are delivered with remarkable precision, while bright acidity provides balance and drive.

The finish is extraordinarily long and multi-dimensional, lingering with notes of black fruit, espresso, dark chocolate, spice, cedar, and savoury complexity. While approachable with decanting, the 2019 RunRig is built for long-term cellaring and will evolve over 20–30+ years, developing greater savoury nuance and tertiary character.
