The 2019 Two Hands Ares Shiraz is the flagship wine of Two Hands Wines and represents the ultimate expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz within the winery’s portfolio. Named after the Greek god of war, Ares is produced only from the finest barrels of the vintage, selected from the estate’s most exceptional fruit sources. It stands among Australia’s most prestigious Shiraz wines, combining immense concentration with remarkable elegance and longevity.

The 2019 vintage in Barossa Valley delivered wines of outstanding balance and purity, with moderate conditions producing fruit of exceptional intensity while retaining freshness and structure. The result is a powerful yet beautifully poised Shiraz that showcases both the richness of the region and the precision of modern winemaking.

Only a tiny proportion of barrels are selected for Ares each year. The wine is matured for approximately 20–24 months in predominantly new French oak hogsheads, allowing the fruit, tannins, and oak to integrate seamlessly while building complexity and cellaring potential.

The bouquet is intensely layered and captivating, revealing aromas of blackberry, blueberry, black plum, and black cherry, intertwined with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, liquorice, cedar, baking spices, and violet. Subtle nuances of sage, dried herbs, graphite, and roasted meats add further depth and sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, luxurious, and impeccably structured, delivering concentrated flavours of dark berries, plum compote, blackberry, mocha, cocoa, and spice. Despite its immense power, the texture remains silky and refined, supported by ultra-fine tannins and perfectly balanced acidity.

The finish is exceptionally long and layered, lingering with notes of black fruits, dark chocolate, espresso, spice, cedar, and savoury earthiness. Built for serious collectors, the 2019 Ares is expected to evolve gracefully over 20–30 years, developing additional complexity and tertiary character with extended cellaring.
