The 2020 Mount Mary Quintet Red Blend is the flagship wine of Mount Mary and one of Australia’s most celebrated Bordeaux-inspired blends. Produced in limited quantities in the Yarra Valley, Quintet has earned a reputation for elegance, longevity, and meticulous craftsmanship since its inaugural release in 1982.

The 2020 vintage was shaped by a warm and challenging growing season, resulting in lower yields and highly concentrated fruit. Through careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, Mount Mary produced a Quintet that combines power, precision, and remarkable balance.

Crafted from the traditional Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, the wine reflects the estate’s commitment to producing refined, age-worthy wines that prioritise structure and complexity over sheer weight. The fruit was hand-harvested and matured in French oak barrels, allowing each component to develop harmony while preserving vineyard character.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, intertwined with notes of violet, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and dried herbs. As the wine opens, subtle nuances of cocoa, spice, earth, and fine oak emerge, adding depth and sophistication.

On the palate, the 2020 Quintet is medium to full-bodied with exceptional structure and finesse. Concentrated flavours of cassis, black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, and savoury herbs are supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant natural acidity. The wine displays remarkable purity of fruit, seamless oak integration, and a level of precision that has become a hallmark of Mount Mary.
