The 2020 Prophet’s Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is a distinguished single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the spectacular Central Otago region of New Zealand. Produced by Prophet’s Rock, this wine showcases the purity, elegance, and site-driven character that have made Prophet’s Rock one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded Pinot Noir producers.

Sourced exclusively from the estate’s Home Vineyard in Bendigo, one of Central Otago’s warmest and most sought-after subregions, the wine reflects a unique combination of schist-rich soils, high-altitude vineyards, and a continental climate. The 2020 growing season provided excellent ripening conditions, resulting in fruit with exceptional concentration, aromatic complexity, and balance.

Hand-harvested and carefully sorted, the grapes underwent traditional small-batch fermentation, including a proportion of whole bunches to build structure and aromatic lift. The wine was matured in premium French oak barrels, enhancing texture and complexity while allowing the vineyard’s character to remain the focal point.

The bouquet is intensely perfumed and layered, revealing aromas of dark cherry, black raspberry, wild strawberry, and red plum, intertwined with notes of violet, rose petal, baking spice, and subtle cedar. With aeration, further complexity emerges through hints of forest floor, dried thyme, mushroom, graphite, and earthy minerality.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet concentrated, displaying vibrant flavours of black cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and plum skin. Fine tannins and bright natural acidity provide structure and energy, while the seamless integration of fruit and oak creates remarkable balance and elegance.

The finish is long, refined, and persistent, lingering with notes of red berries, spice, dried flowers, savoury herbs, and mineral complexity. While highly enjoyable now with decanting, the wine possesses excellent ageing potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 10–15 years.
