The 2020 Two Hands Ares Shiraz is the flagship release from Two Hands Wines, representing the pinnacle of the winery’s Shiraz production. Named after the Greek god of war, Ares is crafted only in exceptional vintages and is assembled from the very best barrels across the Barossa Valley, selected through rigorous blind tasting. The result is a Shiraz of extraordinary depth, purity, and power.

The 2020 vintage in South Australia produced wines of remarkable intensity and structure, with the Barossa delivering fruit of deep concentration while retaining freshness and natural balance. Ares captures the very best parcels of this vintage, showcasing both richness and precision.

After fermentation, the wine is matured for approximately 20–24 months in predominantly new French oak hogsheads. This long maturation period allows the wine to build complexity, integrate oak seamlessly, and develop the layered structure that defines the Ares style.

The bouquet is deeply expressive and powerful, revealing aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark plum, and black cherry, layered with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, liquorice, cedar, vanilla bean, and violet florals. Savoury undertones of graphite, dried herbs, and spice add further complexity.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, dense, and impeccably structured, delivering concentrated flavours of black fruits, plum, mocha, cocoa, and spice. Despite its power, the texture is remarkably polished, with ultra-fine tannins and vibrant acidity giving balance and lift.

The finish is exceptionally long and multi-layered, lingering with notes of dark berries, espresso, cocoa, spice, and savoury oak complexity. Built for serious cellaring, the 2020 Ares will evolve over 20–30+ years, developing additional nuance, savoury depth, and tertiary complexity.
