The 2022 Bekkers TOME (by) Bekkers is a premium McLaren Vale red blend from the acclaimed Bekkers Wine, crafted by Toby and Emmanuelle Bekkers. Created as the winery’s trade-exclusive label, TOME offers a more approachable, earlier-drinking expression while maintaining the meticulous craftsmanship, elegance, and vineyard focus that have made Bekkers one of Australia’s most respected boutique producers.

The 2022 release, known as Volume 2, is a distinctive blend of 63% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 17% Grenache, with each vintage featuring a unique composition that reflects the growing season. Fruit is sourced entirely from McLaren Vale, with careful vineyard selection to achieve balance, freshness, and complexity.

Winemaking follows Bekkers’ low-intervention philosophy. Approximately 10% whole bunches are included during fermentation, with the remaining fruit destemmed and hand sorted. Indigenous yeast fermentation is carried out slowly and gently before maturation on fine lees in a combination of large seasoned French oak casks and concrete tanks, preserving purity while enhancing texture and finesse.

The bouquet is vibrant and expressive, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, mulberry, and dark cherry, complemented by notes of violet, clove, black pepper, and gentle savoury herbs. Subtle hints of espresso, graphite, and cocoa provide additional depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced, offering flavours of dark berries, cassis, plum, and blackberry supported by satiny tannins and lively natural acidity. The restrained oak regime contributes texture and refinement without overshadowing the fruit, resulting in an elegant and seamless drinking experience.

The finish is long, fresh, and polished, lingering with notes of black fruits, clove spice, graphite, and savoury minerality. Designed to be enjoyed earlier than the flagship Bekkers wines, it nevertheless has the structure to cellar comfortably for 5–8 years.
