The 2022 Kooyong Faultline Vineyard Chardonnay is a distinguished single-vineyard Chardonnay from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, crafted by Kooyong. Sourced exclusively from the renowned Faultline Vineyard within the Kooyong estate, this wine highlights the unique geological and climatic influences that make the site one of the Peninsula’s most celebrated Chardonnay vineyards.

The Faultline Vineyard sits on a distinctive band of ironstone-rich and sedimentary soils, contributing structure, minerality, and complexity to the wine. Combined with Mornington Peninsula’s cool maritime climate and extended growing season, the site consistently produces Chardonnay with remarkable precision, tension, and ageing potential.

The 2022 vintage provided ideal growing conditions, allowing the fruit to develop exceptional flavour concentration while retaining vibrant natural acidity. Hand-harvested grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barriques, followed by extended maturation on lees. A carefully judged proportion of new French oak adds depth and texture while preserving vineyard expression.

The bouquet is refined and complex, displaying aromas of white peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and grapefruit, layered with notes of citrus blossom, crushed hazelnut, almond meal, flint, and wet stone minerality. Subtle hints of brioche and oatmeal emerge with aeration, adding further sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and beautifully focused. Flavours of stone fruit, preserved lemon, citrus, and pear are balanced by bright acidity and a creamy, textured mouthfeel. The wine combines richness and tension, delivering remarkable precision and depth.
