The 2023 By Farr Irrewarra Pinot Noir is a distinctive single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Victoria’s cool and maritime Surf Coast region, crafted by By Farr. It sits among the most site-expressive wines in the By Farr portfolio, showcasing purity, structure, and the distinctive character of the Irrewarra Vineyard.

Sourced exclusively from the Irrewarra Vineyard near Colac, this site is defined by its cool climate, extended ripening season, and complex mix of clay and volcanic soils. The 2023 vintage delivered exceptional balance and aromatic intensity, producing fruit with clarity, finesse, and fine structural definition.

Winemaking follows a traditional Burgundian-inspired philosophy, including partial whole-bunch fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels. The use of oak is carefully moderated to enhance texture and complexity while preserving the vineyard’s natural expression.

The bouquet is expressive and layered, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, interwoven with notes of rose petal, violet, cinnamon spice, and subtle forest floor. As the wine opens, more savoury elements of dried herbs, tea leaf, and earthy minerality emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and finely structured. Flavours of red berries, cherry, raspberry, and plum skin are supported by bright acidity and fine-grained tannins. The texture is elegant and seamless, with a strong sense of purity and balance.

The finish is long, refined, and savoury, leaving lingering notes of red fruits, spice, dried flowers, and gentle earthy complexity. While approachable in its youth, the wine has excellent cellaring potential and will develop further nuance and depth over the next decade.
