The 2023 Dalrymple Single Site Pipers River Pinot Noir is a finely structured, cool-climate Pinot Noir from Tasmania’s highly regarded Pipers River subregion, produced by Dalrymple Vineyards. This single-vineyard expression captures the purity, finesse, and maritime influence that define some of Tasmania’s most elegant Pinot Noir.

Sourced from estate-grown fruit in Pipers River, the wine reflects a site shaped by cooling Bass Strait sea breezes, long slow ripening, and basalt-influenced soils. These conditions consistently produce Pinot Noir with bright acidity, fine tannins, and aromatic precision rather than weight or overt ripeness.

The 2023 vintage followed a dynamic growing season that ultimately delivered excellent fruit concentration and balance. Careful hand-harvesting and traditional winemaking techniques were used, including partial whole-bunch fermentation, wild yeast fermentation, and maturation in French oak barriques (a proportion of which are new oak), enhancing both texture and complexity.

The bouquet is perfumed and detailed, showing sour cherry, red cherry, wild strawberry, and cranberry, layered with notes of violet, rose petal, Asian five spice, dried herbs, and subtle earth. With air, more savoury elements emerge, including forest floor, game spice, and mineral tones.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, precise, and finely textured, with a core of red fruit supported by vibrant acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Flavours of sour cherry, red berries, and plum skin are balanced by savoury spice and a gentle earthy backbone, giving the wine both lift and structure.

The finish is long, clean, and elegant, with lingering notes of cranberry, spice, red cherry, and mineral freshness. While already expressive, the wine will develop additional complexity over 5–15 years, gaining more savoury and tertiary nuance with bottle age.
