The 2023 Moss Wood Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is a structured, elegant, and age-worthy red wine from Western Australia’s premier Cabernet region, produced by Moss Wood. As one of the benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon producers in Australia, Moss Wood is known for its classical styling, vineyard precision, and long-term cellaring potential.

The 2023 vintage in Margaret River delivered outstanding conditions, with a long, even ripening season that allowed Cabernet Sauvignon to develop deep colour, refined tannins, and excellent flavour concentration. The Wilyabrup subregion, where Moss Wood is based, is especially renowned for producing structured Cabernet with natural balance and longevity.

Fruit was hand-harvested from estate vineyards and carefully sorted before fermentation in small open fermenters. Extended maceration helped build structure, colour, and complexity. The wine was then matured in French oak barriques, with a proportion of new oak contributing spice, depth, and structure while integrating seamlessly with the fruit.

The bouquet is powerful yet refined, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry, and plum, layered with notes of violet, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and dark chocolate. As the wine opens, savoury complexity emerges with hints of bay leaf, earth, and subtle spice.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, firm, and beautifully structured. Flavours of cassis, blackberry, dark plum, and blackcurrant are supported by fine yet authoritative tannins and vibrant natural acidity. The palate shows precision and depth, balancing richness with restraint.

The finish is long, focused, and persistent, with lingering notes of black fruit, cedar, spice, and dark cocoa. While approachable with decanting, the 2023 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon is built for long-term cellaring and will reward careful aging over 15–25 years.
