The 2023 Polperro Mill Hill Single Vineyard Chardonnay is a finely structured, site-expressive Chardonnay from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, produced by Polperro Wines. Sourced exclusively from the Mill Hill Vineyard in Red Hill, this wine reflects one of the most elevated and cooler vineyard sites in the Polperro portfolio, delivering precision, mineral drive, and refined complexity.

The Mill Hill site benefits from a cool maritime climate, elevated aspect, and clay-rich soils, which contribute to wines of natural acidity, fine structure, and excellent ageing potential. The 2023 vintage provided ideal conditions for slow ripening, resulting in fruit of outstanding purity and balance.

Crafted in a traditional, low-intervention style, the fruit was hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented with wild yeasts. Maturation in French oak barrels (including a controlled proportion of new oak) adds depth, texture, and subtle complexity, while extended lees contact enhances creaminess and mid-palate weight.

The bouquet is precise and elegant, revealing aromas of white peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and green apple, layered with notes of citrus blossom, grapefruit, roasted almond, and flinty minerality. As it opens, more complex nuances of wet stone, saline tension, and subtle brioche emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, tightly structured, and beautifully focused. Flavours of stone fruit, citrus, pear, and white peach are supported by vibrant acidity and a fine, creamy texture. The balance between fruit intensity, oak integration, and mineral drive is seamless.

The finish is long, precise, and mineral-laced, with lingering notes of lemon curd, citrus oil, almond meal, and flinty complexity. While already expressive, the wine has excellent cellaring potential and will develop greater depth and nuance over the next 8–10 years.
