The 2023 Polperro Talland Hill Single Vineyard Chardonnay is a finely tuned, site-driven Chardonnay from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, produced by Polperro Wines. Sourced exclusively from the elevated Talland Hill Vineyard in Red Hill, this wine reflects the cool maritime influence and complex soils that define some of the region’s most refined Chardonnay expressions.

The Talland Hill site is characterised by its elevated position, ocean influence, and clay-limestone soils, which contribute to wines of natural acidity, mineral tension, and fine structure. The 2023 vintage provided a long, even ripening period, resulting in fruit of exceptional purity, balance, and intensity.

Crafted in a traditional, low-intervention style, the fruit was hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented with wild yeasts. Maturation in French oak barrels (with a measured proportion of new oak) adds texture, depth, and complexity while preserving vineyard expression. Lees stirring contributes additional creaminess and mid-palate weight.

The bouquet is refined and expressive, showing aromas of white peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and grapefruit, layered with notes of citrus blossom, roasted almond, flint, and subtle vanilla spice. As the wine opens, delicate hints of wet stone, saline minerality, and brioche emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, precise, and beautifully structured. Flavours of stone fruit, citrus, pear, and white peach are supported by vibrant acidity and a fine, creamy texture. The balance between fruit intensity, freshness, and oak integration is seamless.

The finish is long, focused, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of lemon curd, citrus oil, almond meal, and flinty complexity. While approachable in its youth, the wine will reward cellaring, developing further depth and nuance over the next 5–10 years.
