The 2024 Ata Rangi Pinot Gris is an elegant, textural white wine from the iconic Ata Rangi estate in Martinborough, New Zealand. Inspired by the rich, dry styles of Alsace, this Pinot Gris has evolved into a distinctly Martinborough expression, combining aromatic purity, generous texture, and vibrant mineral freshness. The outstanding 2024 vintage delivered pristine fruit with exceptional depth, balance, and natural acidity.
Sourced from estate-grown vineyards, the fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before being transferred to large-format barrels with minimal settling. Fermentation occurred naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by six months of maturation on fine lees. No malolactic fermentation was undertaken, preserving the wine’s freshness and precision while enhancing texture and complexity.
The bouquet is beautifully perfumed, revealing aromas of fresh pear, lychee, citrus, and ripe apple, complemented by delicate floral notes of rose, jasmine, and citronella. Subtle hints of white blossom and mineral freshness provide additional elegance and lift.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, richly textured, and beautifully balanced, opening with flavours of pear, citrus, and orchard fruit layered with distinctive notes of nutmeg and ground ginger. Fine phenolic texture is perfectly matched by vibrant acidity, creating a wine that is both generous and refreshingly precise.
The finish is long, cool, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of wet stone, gentle herbal balm, citrus, and soft spice. While wonderfully expressive in its youth, the exceptional structure and balance of the 2024 vintage mean it will continue to develop additional complexity over the next 5–8 years.
