2024 Yangarra Estate Vineyard Old Vine Grenache 750ml

$44.99

The 2024 Yangarra Old Vine Grenache is made from 1946-planted, dry-grown bush vines in the deep sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. Hand-picked fruit was gently destemmed with 50% whole berries retained before wild-yeast fermentation in stainless steel and extended maceration on selected parcels. Maturation in old French and Austrian oak, ceramic eggs and amphorae creates a perfumed, elegant Grenache with vibrant fruit, savoury complexity, fine tannins and impressive length.

The 2024 Yangarra Estate Vineyard Old Vine Grenache is a premium expression of Grenache from Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale, sourced exclusively from 13.3 hectares of unirrigated bush vines planted in 1946. The vines grow in deep white sands known at Yangarra as “The Beach”, overlying the North Maslin Sands geological formation. The combination of extreme vine age, sandy soils and dry-grown cultivation produces naturally complex, perfumed fruit with Yangarra’s distinctive fine tannin structure. The vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic.

The 2024 growing season began with a wet winter followed by a dry spring. Unexpected summer rainfall in December and January encouraged larger bunches and consistent berry development, while warm conditions through February and early March promoted balanced flavour and sugar ripening. The grapes were hand-picked in mid-March and selectively sorted at the winery.

The fruit was gently destemmed, with 50% crushed and 50% whole berries retained. Wild-yeast fermentation took place in stainless-steel vessels with an exceptionally gentle pump-over regime, often only wetting the cap to minimise extraction. Selected parcels underwent extended maceration of up to approximately two and a half months to further polish the tannins. No pressings were used.

Following fermentation, the wine was matured in a combination of older Austrian and French oak foudres and puncheons, ceramic eggs and amphorae. Bottled in February 2025, the 2024 vintage retains the purity and fragrance of the old bush vines while developing savoury complexity, texture and length. The wine is 100% Grenache Noir, with 14% alcohol, pH 3.48 and 5.6 g/L titratable acidity.
