The 2025 42 Degrees South Pinot Noir is a refined cool-climate Pinot Noir from Tasmania, produced by 42 Degrees South. Named after Tasmania’s latitude, this wine reflects the purity, elegance, and precision that define the island’s reputation as one of Australia’s premier regions for cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Tasmania’s maritime climate, with its long growing season, cool temperatures, and consistent diurnal variation, allows Pinot Noir grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This results in wines of exceptional aromatic lift, natural acidity, and fine structural detail. The 2025 vintage delivered particularly expressive fruit with excellent balance and purity.

Fruit was hand-harvested from selected Tasmanian vineyards and carefully sorted before fermentation in small open fermenters. A portion of whole bunches was included to enhance fragrance, spice, and structure. The wine was then matured in French oak barrels, with restrained new oak influence to preserve varietal clarity and regional expression.

The bouquet is vibrant and perfumed, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, layered with notes of rose petal, violet, orange peel, and subtle spice. As the wine opens, delicate savoury characters of forest floor, dried herbs, and earthy minerality emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and finely structured. Flavours of red berries, cherry, raspberry, and plum skin are supported by bright natural acidity and fine-grained tannins. The wine shows excellent precision, balance, and freshness.

The finish is long, elegant, and mineral-driven, leaving lingering impressions of red fruits, floral perfume, spice, and subtle savoury complexity. While approachable in its youth, it has the structure to develop gracefully over the next 5–8 years.
