The 2025 Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir is an elegant and vibrant Pinot Noir from the iconic Ata Rangi estate in Martinborough, New Zealand. Inspired by the brilliant crimson flowers of New Zealand’s native pōhutukawa and rātā trees, Crimson is named in support of Project Crimson, a conservation initiative dedicated to restoring these iconic native species. This wine offers an approachable expression of Martinborough Pinot Noir while maintaining the quality and precision for which Ata Rangi is internationally renowned.

The 2025 vintage is regarded by Ata Rangi as arguably the finest in the estate’s 45-year history. A cool winter followed by drying winds, naturally reduced yields, and a warm, stable summer produced perfectly balanced fruit with outstanding flavour concentration, fine tannins, and vibrant natural acidity.

Fruit is sourced from 5 to 25-year-old estate vineyards on the famed Martinborough Terrace. The grapes are hand-picked, with approximately 90% destemmed and 10% whole bunches, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open-top fermenters. The wine is matured for around 12 months in French oak barriques, approximately 20% new oak, allowing the purity of the fruit and vineyard character to shine.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic, offering layers of rose petal, blood orange, cranberry, raspberry, and cherry, complemented by notes of sandalwood, tamarind, toasted rice, cinnamon, and subtle tobacco. Delicate mineral and earthy nuances add complexity and elegance.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced, with flavours of red cherry, cranberry, raspberry, and red plum framed by vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. Hints of bergamot tea, cinnamon, clove, spice, and savoury earth create depth while maintaining remarkable freshness and energy.

The finish is long, bright, and finely textured, lingering with notes of red berries, blood orange, gentle spice, floral perfume, and mineral freshness. Delicious in its youth, the 2025 Crimson will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 5–10 years.
