The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 Year Old Special Release 2022 is a rare and distinctive Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky created as part of Diageo’s Special Releases collection. Known as “The Enchantress of the Ruby Solstice”, this limited-edition expression showcases the rich influence of extended wine-cask maturation alongside the elegant character of Glen Ord single malt.
Initially matured in refill American and European oak casks, the whisky underwent an exceptional eight-year secondary maturation in wine-seasoned casks. This extended maturation adds layers of vibrant red fruit, vinous character, oak spice and subtle sweetness to the underlying malt.
The nose is elegant and slightly dry, opening with red wine aromas, tart red berries and creamy vanilla, followed by spicy oak, beech and a delicate waxy note. With a little water, the aromas soften and become more open and expressive.
On the palate, the whisky is remarkably smooth and mouth-filling, with rich barley-sugar sweetness balanced by a subtle touch of salt. Tart gooseberry and crisp grape mingle with red fruit, gentle wine character and warming spice, while the natural cask strength delivers lively intensity.
The finish is long and pleasantly drying, with lingering pepper heat, silky spice, oak and a touch of sweetness. A small amount of water brings forward softer, sweeter notes and makes the whisky even more approachable.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.2% ABV, this 15 Year Old Glen Ord is a compelling collector’s expression that combines rich wine-cask character with the depth and structure of mature Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
