17.5/20 — Jancis Robinson
(2022 Vintage, Tasted: Jan 2024, When to drink: 2030–2045)
About This Wine
The Echezeaux Grand Cru vineyard is divided into two plots, with 80% located in the climat “Echezeaux Du-Dessus” planted in 1922 and 20% in the climat “Quartiers de Nuits” planted in 1945. The total area is 1.1465 hectares on a south to south-east facing gentle slope with clay-limestone soils dominated by brown clay and small stones.
Grapes are carefully harvested and sorted by hand, then partially destemmed with whole clusters retained. A cold pre-fermentation maceration of 4 to 6 days is followed by a full maceration lasting 15 days, using only pigeage. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts.
Tasting Notes
Deep and intense red colour. The nose is generous, showing fresh red berries such as strawberries and raspberries, with fresh notes of peppermint and eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is elegant, with very smooth and integrated tannins and a balanced interplay between acidity and roundness.
