The shiraz, a less common clone (known as ‘Tahbilkâ€? is showing greater depth of flavour and better balanced tannins as the vines age. The Grosset Nereus 2022 is once again a blend of shiraz with ten per cent nero d'avola - has bold, ripe and succulent texture that is fresh and lively, dense and powerful, with blackberry, mulberry and blackcurrant flavours in the mid-palate and a finish that is intense and long. It is generous and fleshy, ripe and full-flavoured and such delicious drinking at a young age. Estate grown at Grosset Rockwood Vineyard in the Clare Valley (A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic) Matured in French oak barriques (45% new) for 18 months.
Very bright, deep purple-red colour, with similarly bright youthful and fresh aromas of banana esters, red cherry and raspberry, the wine turning deliciously juicy on the tongue with crisp acidity lifting the sweet berry fruit, and fine, subtle, powdery tannins providing the backing. A vibrant young red that drinks well early and should also age well. Date: Mar 2024; Alcohol: 14%; Price: $53.00; Drink: 2025-2037; Rating: 95 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
