Brokenwood's distinctive Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz stands as the epitome of Hunter Valley shiraz, drawing inspiration from the renowned Lindeman's Hunter River burgundies of the 1960s. This wine not only captures the exceptional character of the vineyard but also reflects a profound regional identity, further enriched with the nuances of aging. Balancing modernity with heritage, it retains an irresistible freshness.
The initial vintage of Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz dates back to 1983, crafted with meticulous care by selecting the finest parcels, predominantly sourced from the oldest plantings.
THE WINEMAKING
Given the extremely low yields of only two and a half tons per hectare, the berries usually have a high skin to juice ratio, resulting in saturated colors and intense flavors. Aged for up to 14 months in new oak barrels (30-40%) and experienced French oak casks and vats.
"In the middle weight class, the Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz presents concentrated aromas of blackberry and aniseed, accompanied by savory oak nuances. Floral and herb garden hints emerge, transforming into rich, gamey characters that evolve beautifully over time. With its perfumed, sumptuous, and seductive profile, this wine articulates the pinnacle of Hunter Valley shiraz excellence."
