The 2023 Soumah Equilibrio Pinot Noir is a flagship, low-intervention Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley, produced by the highly regarded Soumah Wines. The “Equilibrio” label represents Soumah’s pursuit of balance, precision, and purity, focusing on expressing vineyard character with minimal intervention and maximum finesse.

The 2023 vintage in the Yarra Valley was defined by a long, cool ripening period, allowing Pinot Noir grapes to develop exceptional aromatic detail and natural acidity. Fruit was hand-harvested from select vineyard parcels and fermented in small open vessels, with a portion of whole bunch inclusion to enhance fragrance, structure, and savoury complexity. The wine was then matured in fine French oak barriques, with careful restraint on new oak to preserve delicacy and site expression.

The bouquet is lifted and complex, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, supported by floral violet, rose petal, and subtle spice. Underlying savoury notes of forest floor, dried herbs, and subtle earthy tones add depth and intrigue.

On the palate, the wine is elegant, layered, and finely structured. Bright red fruit flavours are carried by vibrant acidity and silky, fine-grained tannins. The whole bunch influence adds subtle spice and savoury detail, while the oak integration remains discreet, contributing texture rather than weight.

The finish is long, refined, and beautifully balanced, with lingering red berry fruit, floral lift, and gentle earthy complexity. While already expressive, the wine has the structure and freshness to evolve gracefully over 7–10 years.
