The 2009 Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah is one of Australia’s most iconic and collectible wines, produced from old-vine Shiraz in the elevated Clarendon subregion of McLaren Vale. Widely regarded as the flagship wine of Clarendon Hills, Astralis is celebrated for its extraordinary concentration, complexity, and ability to age gracefully for decades. The 2009 vintage is considered one of the standout releases of the era, combining immense power with remarkable balance and finesse.

Sourced from vines originally planted in 1920, the wine was fermented with wild yeasts and matured for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Lower crop yields during the 2009 growing season resulted in exceptional fruit concentration and depth.

The nose is intensely aromatic, offering layers of blackberry, black cherry, dark plum, liquorice, mocha, cedar, black pepper, and subtle roasted meat notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and exceptionally powerful, delivering rich flavours of ripe black fruits, dark chocolate, spice, vanilla, and savoury oak. Despite its concentration, the wine maintains remarkable elegance, supported by velvety tannins, vibrant energy, and extraordinary length.

With further cellaring, Astralis develops additional layers of panforte, cedar, dark chocolate, spice, and earthy complexity. Built for long-term ageing, the 2009 vintage remains one of the benchmark Australian Syrah wines and a prized addition to serious wine collections.
