The 2002 Jasper Hill Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz is one of the flagship wines from Jasper Hill Vineyard in Heathcote, Victoria. Known for its distinctive sense of place, Georgia’s Paddock showcases the power, concentration and natural balance associated with Jasper Hill’s exceptional vineyard site.
Jasper Hill and Ron Laughton are true pioneer’s and icons in the central Victorian wine region of Heathcote. Georgia’s Paddock is the larger of ‘Jasper’s’ vineyards, with 12 hectares planted to Shiraz to produce a wine rich in character and complexity. Always known for it’s extreme ageability, Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz will comfortably lie down for over a decade to deliver a Heathcote Shiraz simply bursting with concentration.
Georgia’s Paddock grapes once again supplemented with grapes grown by friends within the Heathcote region, this years wine follows on with a fresh indulgent approach to a wine worth savouring.
Vineyard Notes
Our soils are derived from Cambrian period basaltic rock of 500/600 million years age. They are quite rare in the world because of their great age, particularly in Australia. Here in Heathcote they are unusually deep (up to 4 metres), rusty red colou well drained, gravelly loams on undulating hillsides, with good moisture retention capabilities. Occurring in a narrow, non-contiguous strip between two North/South running faults, they are typically only a few hundred metres wide. The faults give rise to a complex mineralogy within the soils.
Producer Tasting Notes
Vibrant magenta colour with a rich dark berry nose. Fabulous hit of fresh red fruits, a spicy luscious mouth feel and great more-ish length.
