The 2016 Mount Mary Pinot Noir is a beautifully mature expression of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from one of Australia’s most revered boutique wineries, Mount Mary. Produced in limited quantities from the estate vineyard, this wine reflects Mount Mary’s unwavering commitment to elegance, balance, and longevity.

The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as an outstanding year in the Yarra Valley, with a warm, dry growing season followed by favourable ripening conditions that produced fruit of exceptional concentration, purity, and structure. The resulting Pinot Noir combines ripe fruit expression with the finesse and restraint that define the Mount Mary style.

Crafted from estate-grown Pinot Noir and matured in French oak barrels with a modest proportion of new oak, the wine was designed to highlight vineyard character rather than oak influence. After years of bottle maturation, the wine now displays an appealing combination of primary fruit, savoury complexity, and tertiary development.

The bouquet is highly expressive, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and red plum, intertwined with notes of rose petal, dried herbs, forest floor, cinnamon spice, and cedar. With further aeration, mature characters of mushroom, tea leaf, truffle, and earthy undergrowth emerge, adding depth and sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully integrated. Flavours of red berries, cherry, cranberry, and plum skin are supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The years of bottle age have softened the structure while enhancing complexity, resulting in a harmonious and refined drinking experience.

The finish is long, elegant, and savoury, lingering with notes of red fruits, spice, dried flowers, forest floor, and subtle earthy minerality. The wine is drinking beautifully now but still possesses the balance and structure to continue evolving for years to come.
