The 2018 Ben Glaetzer Eye of Ra Shiraz is an ultra-luxury, single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz from acclaimed winemaker Ben Glaetzer, produced only in exceptional vintages as his pinnacle expression of the variety. It represents the highest tier of his winemaking portfolio, crafted from meticulous barrel selection across the Barossa Valley’s most distinguished old-vine sites.

The 2018 vintage is widely regarded as outstanding in the Barossa, delivering fruit of remarkable concentration, purity, and structural finesse. Eye of Ra is made in extremely limited quantities, with only the finest barrels selected after extended maturation, ensuring exceptional depth and precision.

Maturation typically occurs over an extended period in 100% new French oak, contributing power, structure, and seamless integration of fruit and spice while preserving balance and elegance.

The bouquet is intensely layered and powerful, showing blackberry, blueberry, black plum, and dark cherry, supported by complex notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla bean, and violet florals. With time, savoury nuances of graphite, dried herbs, spice, and roasted meat emerge, adding depth and sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, dense, and exceptionally refined, combining immense concentration with a polished, velvety texture. Flavours of dark berries, plum compote, mocha, cocoa, and spice are carried by finely integrated tannins and vibrant underlying acidity, giving both power and balance.

The finish is extraordinarily long and multi-dimensional, lingering with notes of black fruit, chocolate, espresso, cedar spice, and savoury complexity. While approachable with decanting, this wine is built for serious cellaring and will evolve over 20–30+ years, gaining further nuance, savoury depth, and tertiary complexity.
