The 2021 Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz Gift Box is the flagship wine of Yalumba and one of Australia’s most prestigious Cabernet Shiraz blends. Named after Fred Caley Smith, a member of the Yalumba family whose adventurous spirit helped shape the winery’s legacy, The Caley represents the pinnacle of Yalumba’s winemaking philosophy and pays tribute to Australia’s greatest red wine blend: Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz.

The outstanding 2021 vintage combines 74% Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Barossa Shiraz, sourced from carefully selected vineyard parcels including Yalumba’s renowned Ming D block in Coonawarra and historic old-vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa. The wine was matured for 18 months in French oak, including a proportion of new oak, building complexity and structure while preserving fruit purity.

The bouquet is remarkably complex and perfumed, revealing layers of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, complemented by notes of violet, rose petal, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, iodine, dried herbs, and fine spices. The aromatic profile seamlessly combines the elegance of Coonawarra Cabernet with the richness of Barossa Shiraz.

On the palate, the wine is powerful yet effortlessly refined. Concentrated flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark plum, and black cherry are framed by silky, powder-fine tannins and vibrant natural acidity.
