The 2023 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of Coonawarra Cabernet, produced by the family-owned Bowen Estate. Established in 1972, Bowen Estate has built a reputation for crafting consistently outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon from the famous Terra Rossa soils of South Australia’s premier Cabernet-growing region.

The 2023 vintage delivered excellent growing conditions across Coonawarra, allowing fruit to ripen slowly and evenly while retaining freshness and varietal definition. The region’s combination of cool maritime influences, limestone subsoil, and iconic red Terra Rossa soils contributes to wines of structure, elegance, and longevity.

Fruit was harvested at optimal maturity and fermented using traditional winemaking techniques to preserve varietal purity. The wine was then matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels, enhancing complexity while supporting the wine’s natural fruit concentration and structure.

The bouquet is expressive and classically Coonawarra, displaying aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, and dark plum, layered with notes of mint, eucalyptus, cedar, and tobacco leaf. Subtle hints of dark chocolate, spice, and earth add depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich, and beautifully structured. Flavours of cassis, blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum are framed by fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. The hallmark Coonawarra mint and cedar characters provide freshness and regional identity, while integrated oak contributes texture and length.

The finish is long, smooth, and persistent, lingering with notes of dark berries, cedar, mint, and dark chocolate. Approachable in its youth, the wine also possesses the structure and balance to reward cellaring over the next 10–15 years.
