The 2024 Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir is a distinguished single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, crafted by Kooyong. Named after the Massale selection of Pinot Noir vines planted on the estate, this wine is celebrated for its complexity, perfume, and exceptional expression of site.

Situated on the cool maritime slopes of Tuerong, the Kooyong vineyard benefits from Mornington Peninsula’s long growing season, cooling sea breezes, and ancient sandy loam soils. These conditions allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly, developing remarkable aromatic detail, natural acidity, and fine tannin structure.

The 2024 vintage provided ideal ripening conditions, producing fruit with excellent concentration, purity, and balance. Hand-harvested grapes were carefully sorted before fermentation in small open fermenters. A proportion of whole bunches was included to enhance fragrance, spice, and structure. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, with a restrained proportion of new oak preserving vineyard character while adding texture and complexity.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic and layered, revealing notes of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, complemented by aromas of rose petal, violet, orange peel, and exotic spice. As the wine evolves in the glass, savoury nuances of forest floor, dried herbs, tea leaf, and mineral earthiness emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and finely detailed. Flavours of red berries, cherry, raspberry, and plum skin are framed by vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. The wine displays remarkable balance, combining purity of fruit with savoury complexity and structural finesse.

The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, leaving lingering notes of red fruits, floral perfume, spice, and subtle earthy minerality. While already highly expressive, the wine has excellent cellaring potential and will continue to develop beautifully over the next 8–12 years.

A benchmark Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, the 2024 Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir showcases the estate’s commitment to terroir-driven winemaking and the exceptional quality of one of Australia’s premier Pinot Noir vineyards.
