The 2020 Mount Mary Pinot Noir is a beautifully crafted cool-climate red wine from the Yarra Valley, produced by Mount Mary. Renowned for its elegance, restraint, and site-driven character, Mount Mary has established itself as one of Australia’s most respected boutique wineries, and its Pinot Noir is consistently regarded among the country’s finest examples of the variety.

The 2020 vintage presented a warm and dry growing season in the Yarra Valley, resulting in lower yields and exceptional fruit concentration. Through meticulous vineyard management and careful hand-harvesting, Mount Mary produced a Pinot Noir that combines depth and intensity with the estate’s signature finesse and balance.

Made from estate-grown Pinot Noir fruit, the wine was fermented using traditional techniques and matured in French oak barrels, including a modest proportion of new oak. This approach preserves the purity of fruit while adding texture, structure, and subtle complexity.

The bouquet is highly expressive, revealing aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, layered with delicate notes of rose petal, dried herbs, cinnamon spice, cedar, and forest floor. As the wine opens, hints of mushroom, tea leaf, and earthy minerality add further complexity.

On the palate, the 2020 Mount Mary Pinot Noir is medium-bodied, silky, and concentrated. Flavours of red cherry, raspberry, strawberry compote, and plum skin are supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The wine displays impressive depth while maintaining freshness, precision, and elegance.

The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of red berries, spice, floral perfume, and savoury earthiness. Although enjoyable now with decanting, the wine possesses excellent ageing potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 8–15 years.
