The 2023 Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc is a distinctive, premium expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, made from carefully selected fruit from older vines in the Wairau Valley. The grapes come from warm, free-draining gravelly soils across the Motukawa, Widow’s Block, Estate and Brook Street vineyards, where long sunshine hours encourage slow ripening and concentration.

The 2023 vintage presented challenging conditions and lower yields, requiring meticulous vineyard management and low cropping levels to achieve the balance and ripeness required for Te Koko. The fruit was handpicked and fermented using indigenous wild yeasts. It was then matured on lees in a combination of French oak barriques, oak cuves and concrete tulips, allowing the wine to develop its characteristic richness, savoury complexity and texture.

On the palate, Te Koko 2023 is concentrated and complex, showing ripe mango, lemon verbena, sun-warmed lemon, preserved citrus and white nectarine. Layers of meadow hay, salted almond and gentle smoky minerality add depth, while fresh acidity provides balance and drives the wine through a long, focused finish. Cloudy Bay recommends serving it at 10–12°C, with a cellaring potential of approximately 5–10 years.
