The 2023 Dalrymple Single Site Coal River Valley Pinot Noir is a refined, cool-climate Tasmanian Pinot Noir from Dalrymple Vineyards, showcasing the distinct personality of one of Tasmania’s most structured and sun-exposed Pinot Noir regions. The Coal River Valley is known for its relatively dry climate, long ripening season, and stony soils, producing Pinot Noir with greater intensity, darker fruit profile, and fine tannin structure.

The 2023 vintage delivered excellent balance across Tasmania, with Coal River Valley fruit showing particularly good concentration and purity. Careful vineyard selection and hand harvesting ensured only the finest parcels were used for this single-site expression.

Winemaking follows a low-intervention, site-driven approach: partial whole-bunch fermentation, wild yeast fermentation, and maturation in French oak barriques (with a proportion of new oak). This elevates complexity while maintaining clarity of fruit and regional expression.

The bouquet is deeper and more concentrated than its Pipers River counterpart, showing black cherry, dark cherry, plum, and blackberry, alongside lifted notes of violet, rose petal, dried herbs, and subtle spice. Savoury undertones of forest floor, clove, and earth emerge with time in the glass.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, structured, and finely textured, with darker fruit intensity and firmer tannins than typical Tasmanian Pinot. Flavours of black cherry, plum skin, and wild berry compote are supported by vibrant acidity and a mineral backbone, giving the wine both depth and precision.

The finish is long, savoury, and elegant, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, dried herbs, and gentle earthy complexity. While approachable in its youth, this wine will reward careful cellaring over 8–15 years, developing further savoury and tertiary complexity.
