The 2023 Dalrymple Single Site Ouse Pinot Noir is a distinctive cool-climate Tasmanian Pinot Noir from Dalrymple Vineyards, showcasing one of the more elevated and inland expressions within the estate’s portfolio. The Ouse site sits in Tasmania’s Central Highlands region, where cooler nights, higher elevation, and slower ripening contribute to a finely structured, aromatic, and highly expressive Pinot Noir style.

The 2023 vintage in Tasmania was marked by excellent seasonal balance, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve both purity and precision. The Ouse site, in particular, produced fruit with lifted aromatics, fine tannins, and a slightly more savoury, herbal edge compared to coastal Tasmanian sites.

Winemaking follows Dalrymple’s traditional low-intervention approach, including hand harvesting, partial whole-bunch fermentation, wild yeast fermentation, and maturation in French oak barriques. The oak is carefully integrated to enhance texture and complexity while preserving the site’s delicate fruit character.

The bouquet is elegant and perfumed, showing red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, supported by floral notes of violet and rose petal. Savoury complexity builds with aromas of thyme, dried herbs, spice, and subtle forest floor earthiness.

On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, precise, and finely detailed, with bright acidity and silky tannins. Flavours of red berries, cherry, and tart plum are framed by herbal lift and a gentle mineral backbone, giving the wine a refined and slightly ethereal structure.

The finish is long, clean, and graceful, with lingering notes of cranberry, red cherry, spice, and earthy herbal nuance. While approachable in its youth, the 2023 Ouse Pinot Noir will reward short- to medium-term cellaring over 5–10 years, developing greater savoury complexity with time.
