The 2023 Dalrymple Single Site Mt. Lord Pinot Noir is a distinctive cool-climate Tasmanian Pinot Noir from Dalrymple Vineyards, sourced from the elevated Mt. Lord site in Tasmania’s Central Highlands. This vineyard sits at higher altitude with a markedly cool growing environment, producing Pinot Noir defined by perfume, finesse, and structural tension rather than weight or ripeness.

The 2023 vintage across Tasmania was notably balanced, allowing Mt. Lord fruit to develop slowly and evenly, resulting in excellent aromatic clarity and fine tannin structure. The site’s elevation and cool night temperatures contribute to bright acidity, red-fruited precision, and a distinctly savoury, alpine-like character.

Winemaking follows Dalrymple’s minimal-intervention philosophy: hand harvesting, careful sorting, partial whole-bunch fermentation, wild yeast fermentation, and maturation in French oak barriques. Oak is used judiciously to enhance texture and complexity while allowing the vineyard’s identity to remain the focus.

The bouquet is highly aromatic and lifted, showing red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, supported by floral notes of violet and rose petal. Layered underneath are more savoury and alpine-leaning aromas of thyme, dried herbs, spice, and subtle forest floor earthiness.

On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, precise, and finely etched, with vibrant acidity and delicate, powdery tannins. Flavours of red cherry, tart berry, and plum skin are carried by a linear structure and mineral backbone, giving the wine tension, lift, and elegance.

The finish is long, pure, and refined, with lingering notes of cranberry, red cherry, spice, and cool-climate herbal nuance. While approachable in its youth, the 2023 Mt. Lord Pinot Noir will evolve gracefully over 5–12 years, gaining savoury complexity and deeper tertiary character.
