The 2023 Nanny Goat “Super Nanny” Pinot Noir is a limited, premium-tier Central Otago Pinot Noir from New Zealand, produced by Nanny Goat Vineyard. As the flagship expression of the estate, “Super Nanny” is selected from the very best parcels and barrels, representing a more concentrated, structured, and age-worthy interpretation of Central Otago Pinot Noir.

Sourced from exceptional vineyard sites across Central Otago, the 2023 vintage delivered ideal ripening conditions with warm days and cool nights, allowing for outstanding flavour intensity while retaining natural acidity and aromatic lift. Careful fruit selection and low yields contributed to a wine of depth, precision, and purity.

Hand-harvested fruit was meticulously sorted before fermentation in small open-top vessels. A higher proportion of whole bunch inclusion than the estate wine adds perfume, spice, and structural tension. The wine was then matured in French oak barrels, including a selection of fine-grain new oak, contributing complexity and refinement.

The bouquet is intense and highly perfumed, revealing layers of dark cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry, alongside lifted notes of violet, rose petal, exotic spice, and orange zest. With aeration, deeper savoury tones emerge, including forest floor, dried herbs, tea leaf, and earthy minerality.

On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, powerful yet finely detailed. Flavours of black cherry, red berries, plum skin, and dark raspberry are supported by firm but polished tannins and vibrant acidity. The structure is more pronounced than the standard Nanny Goat Pinot Noir, showing greater depth, concentration, and drive.

The finish is long, focused, and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, floral perfume, spice, and savoury complexity. While approachable with decanting, the 2023 “Super Nanny” is built for cellaring and will evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years.
