2024 Lowestoft La Maison Pinot Noir 750ml
The 2024 Lowestoft La Maison Pinot Noir is the flagship expression of Lowestoft’s historic vineyard in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, produced exclusively from fruit grown on the estate. The vineyard was originally planted in 1986 and is densely planted at approximately 8,300 vines per hectare, making it one of Tasmania’s most distinctive sites for Pinot Noir.
The 2024 vintage opens with captivating aromas of waxy white flowers, sweet tobacco and red cherry, followed by layers of raspberry, red apple and exotic patchouli. Subtle savoury and earthy nuances add complexity and depth.
On the palate, the wine is powerful yet refined, with generous red fruit, mineral freshness and an exceptionally substantial tannic structure. The tannins are one of the defining features of this vintage, giving the wine impressive gravitas and persistence while maintaining balance and elegance.
The fruit was hand-picked and destemmed into 1.5-tonne open-top fermenters, with selected whole bunches making up approximately 60% of the final blend. Primary fermentation occurred naturally, with twice-daily pump-overs used to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin.
The 2024 La Maison was awarded Gold at the Tasmanian Wine Show, where it was recognised for its quality and structure. Wine Advocate awarded the wine 95 points, noting its considerable tannin, texture and distinctive character.
La Maison has an exceptional track record. Previous vintages have won major Australian wine-show trophies, including the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy, while the 2023 vintage went on to win three trophies at the 2024 Royal Hobart Wine Show.
This is a serious collector’s Pinot Noir: powerful, aromatic, savoury and structured, with the concentration and tannin to benefit from further bottle ageing.
