The 2024 Lowestoft Jacoben Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is a distinguished single-vineyard expression from one of Tasmania’s most exciting Pinot Noir producers. Lowestoft describes its Single Vineyard wines as highly individual expressions of place, with the Jacoben vineyard located in the Lower Derwent Valley.
The Jacoben Vineyard is a remarkably small site planted to Pinot Noir, with the vines including MV6 and D5V12 clones planted approximately 25 years ago. Its location in the Lower Derwent Valley contributes to the wine’s distinctive combination of freshness, depth and finesse.
The 2024 vintage opens with intriguing aromas of dusty musk stick and clay, leading to a refined palate that is supple and chalky in texture. Generous fruit is framed by substantial yet refined tannins, while integrated oak adds further depth without overpowering the vineyard character. The wine is long, textural and distinctive.
The fruit was hand-picked, destemmed and fermented in 2-tonne open-top fermenters, with twice-daily pump-overs used for gentle extraction during primary fermentation. The finished wine was matured in oak before bottling.
The 2024 Jacoben has received strong critical recognition, including 94 points from Wine Advocate, with Erin Larkin describing it as a long and textural wine with considerable tannin and distinctive character. The wine is sealed under screw cap and sits at 14% alcohol.
