The 2023 Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir is a benchmark Central Otago Pinot Noir from one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed producers, Felton Road. Widely regarded as the winery’s signature expression, Bannockburn Pinot Noir combines fruit from several estate vineyards to capture the essence of the Bannockburn subregion, delivering exceptional purity, complexity, and site expression.

Produced from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards, the 2023 vintage reflects Felton Road’s commitment to sustainable viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking. The season delivered beautifully balanced fruit with excellent concentration, vibrant acidity, and remarkable aromatic intensity.

Hand-harvested and carefully sorted, the fruit underwent traditional fermentation with a proportion of whole bunches to enhance structure and complexity. Maturation in French oak barrels provided subtle texture and depth while preserving the purity of vineyard expression.

The bouquet is captivating and highly expressive, offering aromas of dark cherry, wild raspberry, blackberry, and red plum, layered with notes of violet, rose petal, thyme, baking spice, and subtle oak. As the wine evolves in the glass, additional nuances of forest floor, dried herbs, graphite, and earthy minerality emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced. Flavours of black cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and plum skin are supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The texture is seamless and elegant, combining concentration with freshness and precision.

The finish is long, refined, and persistent, revealing lingering notes of red and dark berries, spice, dried flowers, savoury herbs, and mineral complexity. While approachable in its youth, the wine possesses excellent cellaring potential and will continue to develop additional complexity over the next decade and beyond.
