Bin 389 itself is one of Penfolds’ most iconic styles, traditionally a Cabernet Sauvignon–Shiraz blend known for its structure, richness, and aging potential. This “By Troya Silvan” expression highlights a curated stylistic interpretation that leans into a more Shiraz-driven profile while maintaining the hallmarks of the Bin 389 philosophy.

Sourced from premium South Australian vineyards across regions such as Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra, the 2023 vintage reflects excellent growing conditions, producing fruit with depth, balance, and varietal purity. Careful vineyard selection ensures consistency with the Penfolds multi-regional blending approach.

Following fermentation, the wine is matured in a combination of seasoned American oak hogsheads, a signature element of Bin 389 production that contributes richness, spice, and structural complexity while allowing the fruit to remain expressive and dominant.

The bouquet is bold and layered, showing aromas of blackberry, dark plum, black cherry, and ripe raspberry, supported by notes of vanilla, mocha, liquorice, and sweet spice. Subtle undertones of cedar, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee bean add further depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, with concentrated dark fruit flavours framed by supple tannins.
