The 2024 Vasse Felix Chardonnay is a benchmark Margaret River Chardonnay from one of Australia’s founding and most acclaimed wineries, Vasse Felix. Widely regarded as a flagship expression of the region, this wine combines precision, elegance, and complexity, showcasing the exceptional quality for which Margaret River Chardonnay has become internationally renowned.
The 2024 vintage enjoyed favourable growing conditions, producing fruit with excellent concentration, natural acidity, and purity of flavour. Fruit was sourced from select vineyard sites across Margaret River and harvested during the cool early hours to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity.
Following gentle whole-bunch pressing, the juice was fermented in premium French oak barriques, with a portion undergoing wild fermentation. Extended maturation on lees enhanced texture and complexity, while careful oak management ensured balance and integration rather than dominance.
The bouquet is refined and expressive, revealing aromas of white peach, nectarine, lemon curd, grapefruit, and citrus blossom, layered with subtle notes of roasted cashew, nougat, flint, and delicate struck-match complexity. A distinctive mineral edge provides elegance and depth.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, delivering concentrated flavours of stone fruits, Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit, and green apple. A creamy texture from lees ageing is balanced by vibrant acidity and fine mineral tension, creating a wine of remarkable precision and energy.
The finish is long, focused, and sophisticated, lingering with notes of citrus zest, white peach, roasted nuts, and saline minerality. While already approachable, the wine possesses the structure and balance to develop additional complexity over the next 8–12 years.
