The 2023 Kooyong Farrago Chardonnay is the flagship Chardonnay from Kooyong, crafted from the finest estate-grown fruit on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Produced only in outstanding vintages, Farrago represents the pinnacle of Kooyong’s Chardonnay program, showcasing exceptional vineyard selection, meticulous winemaking, and the distinctive maritime character of one of Australia’s premier cool-climate wine regions.

The 2023 growing season provided excellent conditions for Chardonnay, with a long and relatively cool ripening period allowing fruit to develop remarkable flavour intensity while retaining vibrant acidity and mineral precision. Careful vineyard management and selective harvesting ensured only the highest quality parcels were chosen for the Farrago label.

Hand-harvested fruit was whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques. Extended maturation on lees enhanced texture and complexity, while a carefully judged proportion of new French oak added depth and structure without compromising vineyard expression.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic and sophisticated, revealing layers of white peach, nectarine, Meyer lemon, grapefruit, and citrus blossom, intertwined with notes of hazelnut, almond meal, brioche, struck flint, and wet stone minerality. The wine displays remarkable purity and aromatic precision.

On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet seamlessly balanced. Flavours of stone fruit, preserved lemon, pear, and citrus curd are framed by bright natural acidity and a creamy, finely textured mouthfeel. The combination of fruit weight, mineral tension, and integrated oak creates a wine of exceptional complexity and elegance.

The finish is extraordinarily long, focused, and mineral-driven, lingering with notes of citrus, white peach, roasted nuts, flint, and saline freshness. While already impressive in its youth, the 2023 Farrago Chardonnay possesses the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 12–20 years.
