The 2023 Kooyong Single Block Nord Pinot Noir is a rare and highly sought-after single-block Pinot Noir from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, crafted by Kooyong. Produced in limited quantities from the estate’s celebrated Nord block, this wine represents one of the purest and most site-specific expressions of Pinot Noir within the Kooyong portfolio.

The Nord block is distinguished by its elevated position, cool maritime influence, and unique soil composition, producing wines renowned for their perfume, elegance, and structural finesse. The 2023 growing season provided ideal conditions, with a long, cool ripening period allowing the fruit to develop exceptional aromatic complexity while retaining vibrant acidity and precision.

Hand-harvested grapes were carefully selected and fermented in small open fermenters, with a proportion of whole bunches included to enhance fragrance, spice, and texture. Gentle extraction techniques preserved the delicate nature of the fruit before maturation in French oak barrels, where the wine gained subtle complexity and refinement while maintaining its vineyard identity.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic and beautifully layered, revealing notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, complemented by aromas of rose petal, violet, blood orange, and exotic spice. As the wine evolves in the glass, savoury nuances of forest floor, dried herbs, tea leaf, and mineral earthiness emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and exceptionally detailed. Flavours of red berries, cherry, raspberry, and plum skin are supported by vibrant acidity and ultra-fine tannins. The wine combines elegance with concentration, displaying remarkable balance, energy, and persistence.

The finish is long, precise, and mineral-driven, lingering with notes of red fruits, floral perfume, spice, and subtle earthy complexity. Built for long-term cellaring, the 2023 Nord Pinot Noir will continue to gain depth and complexity over the next 10–15 years.
