The 2024 Dalrymple Coal River Valley Chardonnay is a finely structured, cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay that reflects the precision and purity of the Coal River Valley terroir. Produced by Dalrymple Vineyards, this wine showcases a more restrained and mineral-driven expression compared to richer Chardonnay styles, highlighting elegance, tension, and clarity of fruit.

The Coal River Valley is one of Tasmania’s most distinctive cool-climate regions, known for its dry growing conditions, long ripening season, and stony, free-draining soils. These factors contribute to Chardonnay with natural acidity, fine structure, and excellent ageing potential.

The 2024 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, allowing grapes to achieve excellent phenolic ripeness while retaining vibrant freshness. Fruit was carefully hand-harvested and gently whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barriques, with a portion of new oak used to enhance complexity. Extended lees contact adds texture, depth, and subtle creaminess while maintaining precision.

The bouquet is elegant and focused, showing white peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and grapefruit, supported by subtle notes of flint, struck match, cashew, almond meal, and oatmeal. With air, more complex mineral and savoury tones emerge, adding layers of sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, precise, and finely textured, with a core of stone fruit and citrus framed by taut acidity and a chalky mineral backbone. Flavours of white peach, lemon curd, grapefruit, and green apple are balanced by subtle oak influence and lees-derived creaminess.

The finish is long, clean, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of citrus zest, flint, white peach, and roasted nuts. While expressive in youth, the wine has the structure to develop additional complexity over 8–15 years.
